NEWS RELEASE: (Manassas, Virginia): On May 17, 2008, local volunteers from the Prince William Composite Squadron, Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) participated in a U.S. Air Force Evaluation of our Emergency Services capabilities. We gathered at the Chesterfield County Airport just outside of Richmond to support this state wide evaluation from 8AM until 5PM. Cadets ages 12 and up and adult members from around the state were being tested on how we would handle everything from missing aircraft to possible Tsunamis. This bi-annual evaluated exercise allows the U.S. Air Force a chance to monitor and evaluate our staff planning and operations, ground and air operations. A total of five PWCS cadets and ten PWCS officers assisted in this exercise. Nine (9) CAP aircraft, from around the state, participated in this exercise. A number of air sorties were flown and four ground teams were dispatched during the evaluation. We were given three exercise scenarios. One was to assist in trying to locate a missing aircraft; one was to assist in trying to locate a missing person and the last operation was to conduct aerial photography of a designated storm damage site. The objective of this exercise was for CAP members of the VA Wing to display our skills in command, control and operations which supports our emergency services operations while being evaluated by the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion, the United State Air Force Evaluation Team indicated that the Virginia Wing would be given an “Excellent” performance rating. If you would like to know more about the Civil Air Patrol, please contact LtCol Bob Williams at (703) 501-7850 or 2Lt Al Bergeron at (202) 345-7512. We meet every Tuesday evening at the Virginia National Guard Amory in Manassas from 7PM-9PM.
