Civil Air Patrol offers a unique ability to provide low cost aerial reconnaissance to local and state jurisdictions. Some CAP aircraft are even able to send near real time images through satellite communications or slow scan TV downlink. Images can be sent directly to the end user or collected and forwarded all in one package. The Archer System fielded by CAP Airvan has the ability to images from near infrared to ultraviolet. Images can be processed repeatedly to pull information desired or to look for possible search and rescue targets as in the case of the Steve Fosset search.
