Cadet Monthly Tasks

Cadet Emergency Services Training

Motivated cadets take the same emergency services training as senior members. Once certified in general emergency services training, cadets participate in rescue mission support away from the squadron building under senior member supervision. The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Langley AFB Virginia is the organization that tasks CAP to perform search and rescue missions over the contigious 48 states. Emergency Rescue Beacons are recognized and tracked using the COSPAS/SARSAT system of satellites.

The CAP member must have passed (70% minimum grade) the following on-line exams to be qualified in General Emergency Services:

  • CAPT 116 Part I - GES (General Emergency Services) - June 2004 - (25 Questions).
  • CAPT 116 Part II - ICS 100 Level (Incident Command System) - June 2004 - (25 Questions).

The references one must study before taking the GES/ICS exam are:

Visit the Incident Command System Training Pages to see the course materials for NIIMS-G193.

Visit Operations On-line Courses and Examinations to take the on-line tests. To clarify, the GES (complete) exam is composed of GES and ICS combined (50 questions).

Certificates from successful completion of these exams are stored electronically and can be reproduced if necessary (by you) by selecting the Operations Online Exam Validation Tool.

Cadets wanting to participate in Ground Team Searches as a Ground Team Member or Ground Team Leader (more advanced) should register for training sessions offered by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).

Administrative Library

To better understand CAP document nomenclature:

  • CAPM refers to manuals.
  • CAPR refers to regulations.
  • CAPP refers to pamphlets.
  • CAPF refers to forms.
  • CAPV (or VA) refers to visual aids.

Administrative Supplement

  • A MER Parental Consent Form for permission to seek medical attention is necessary when Cadets engage in activites away from the squadron building or in activites that are not funded by the USAF. This includes travel to and from sites where activites are taking place such as, but is not limited to:

    • Field Trips and Tours (areas considered off-site by the unit commander).
    • Powered and Glider Orientation Flights (originating somewhere other than from the NNCS building).
    • Encampments.
    • Field Training Exercises (FTX).
    • Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) missions.
    • Wing Conferences.
  • Additional information is needed in the Mission Activity Number Request Form. to utilize CAP assets with proper insurance coverage.
