Mission Scanners All aircrew members must first be qualified as mission scanners. Mission scanner requirements and training objectives are listed in capf101t_ms.
Scanning is a systematic method of looking for objects such as downed aircraft or missing persons. The scanner's primary responsibility is to maintain constant visual contact with the ground while over the search area. This responsibility makes each scanner a key member of the search aircrew, and he or she usually sits behind the pilot in the aircraft.
The Mission Aircrew Reference Text is an excellent text for all aircrew members. DCS members are encouraged to obtain this text and the accompanying attachment. It is a very large document so if you have a slow internet connection let us know at a squadron meeting.
