Cadet Awards

Award your cadets!

CAPR 39-3 contains specific instructions for cadet awards. The following is a list of special cadet awards with an overview of eligibility requirements and nomination procedures. 

Note that that are four awards requiring only the Unit Commander's selection! 

Cadet of the Year (COTY)
  • See CAPR 39-3, Section 24
  • National-level award 
  • Requires a CAPF 58 and all attachments
  • Due to Wing Commander by 15 January
  • Cadets with Earhart and above
Air Force Sergeant's Association Cadet NCO of the Year (CNCOOTY)
  • See CAPR 39-3, Section  35
  • National-level award
  • Requires a CAPF 58 and all attachments
  • Due to Wing Commander by 15 January
  • Cadets who have earned Wright Brothers but not Mitchell Award
COTY & NCOOTY 2017 Procedures:
  • Each commander may nominate one cadet for each award
  • Consult with your group commander to determine their preference for their approval routing and any earlier deadlines
  • Submit COTY nominations to coty@vawg.cap.gov and CNCOOTY to cncooty@vawg.cap.gov cc'ing your group commander (based on their preference) by midnight 15 January 2018 
  • Packages must include:
    • CAPF 58 
    • TRANSCRIPT OF HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS
    • TRANSCRIPT OF COLLEGE CREDITS (IF APPLICABLE)
    • COLLEGE ENTRANCE ACHIEVEMENT TEST SCORES (SAT or ACT)
    • RECENT PHOTO, FULL LENGTH, IN UNIFORM WITHOUT HAT
    • LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION (MAXIMUM OF THREE)
  • Note that an official transcript may be difficult to obtain closer to the deadline. Keep the email above advised of the current status (e.g. requested, pending) but the package may be no longer eligible near the February (region) deadline if not received. 
COTY & CNCOOTY 2017 Selection Process: 
  • The Wing Commander will approve board membership for both COTY and CNCOOTY IAW CAPR 39-3. Nominees will be evaluated on the strength of their nomination package and may also be interviewed by phone. Board members will be from across the wing and from a variety of experience levels and backgrounds.
