VAWG Honor Guard Mission Statement:

Honor our military, past and present, with dignity and respect.

VAWG Honor Guard Vision Statement:

To prepare Civil Air Patrol cadets to promote the mission, be ambassadors for CAP and instruct in the Honor Guard traditions.

Program Goals:

To achieve its mission and vision, the VAWG Honor Guard program purses the following goals:

1. Promote Honor Guard excellence in cadet programs.

2. Provide a quality instruction in Honor Guard drill and ceremonies to enable cadets to return to their home squadrons to lead and instruct other cadets.

3. Develop a strong sense of individual confidence in learning and performing Honor Guard ceremonies.

4. Build up the ability for the Virginia Wing Cadet Program to be able to augment the Air Force Honor Guard and serve when called upon.

This will be a full week of Honor Guard training:

You will learn how to perform HG standing and marching manual, rifle drill and Honor Guard ceremonies. Classes will prepare you to be an Ambassador for the Civil Air Patrol serving as an Honor Guardsman doing:

Indoor Posting of the Colors, Outdoor Flag, Reveille and Retreat, Serving at a Funeral, Participating in an Honor Cordon and Wreath Laying, POW/MIA Table, Rifle performances ... and much more.

The college is open to any cadet who has completed an Encampment, has attained the rank of A1C, has the desire to learn how to honor and respect our military and has approval from their home unit to attend.

Students who register should have all honor guard gear or will obtain it prior to arriving. A list will be made available for you with the welcome package of where and how to obtain honor guard equipment. The average cost for these items is around $145 not including the uniform items (class A items & service jacket).
